The Music of Branwen

The version of Branwen that I tell together with singer and composer Pauline Down has songs woven throughout it as well as some percussion and a drone instrument, called a shruti box, which many audience members and listeners have been curious about.

So here is a short interview with Pauline about the shruti and how it works with story and song

If you want to listen to the songs in full you can listen to the podcast or buy an mp3 download or the CD from my online shop. If you have been enjoying the songs and would like to know more have a look at the pdf below which has the original Welsh words and English translation.

If you are curious about the songs you can here a short selection from the show below and enjoy some beautiful views of Anglesey, where much of the action of the story of Branwen takes place in the slideshow below

At the end of the video I encouraged you to go for a wander on this beautiful and glorious part of Wales. Obviously the invitation only applies after lockdown! If you are curious about shruti boxes and think you might want to buy one check out Stefan Cartwright’s website.
